ZAI Co-Sponsors Bibliometrics Symposium at NIH
November 1, 2016—ZAI helped sponsor a two-day symposium at NIH (presented by the NIH Library and SLA Maryland) entitled, “Bibliometrics and Research Assessment: A Symposium for Librarians and Information Professionals.” Attendees participated in both lectures and hands-on workshops over two days. ZAI’s Director of the Library Division, Jill Konieczko, was instrumental in helping to plan the event, and ZAI Senior Vice President of Operations, Troy Taylor, assisted with registration activities. ZAI’s sponsorship included providing lanyards to all attendees.
From the NIH Office of Research Services, “biometrics is the study of scientific research using publications as a proxy for research. Because publications are both a method of communication and a formal record of scientific findings, they can be mined in various ways to try to understand how science works. Bibliometric analysis extracts data from scientific publications and analyzes that data using statistical methods to better understand the producers, processes, and intellectual structures of scientific research.” The NIH Library’s Bibliometric Services Program provides bibliometric and portfolio analysis support to NIH employees and staff from across the agency.
