ZAI Awards Scholarships

Friday, June 26, 2020

The purpose of the ZAI scholarship is to promote the continued education of ZAI’s employees and their immediate families and to recognize those who have demonstrated academic and/or employment excellence.

To qualify, applicants must meet the following criteria: (1) be a current ZAI employee or immediate family member (spouse, child, or dependent), (2) be accepted at an accredited two- or four-year college or university to pursue a degree beginning either the Fall or Spring of the 2020-21 academic year, and (3) submit a completed application package per the requirements stated on the application.

The Scholarship Committee reviewed all applicant submissions received by the May 15 deadline and has made its selections. Congratulations to Olivia E., Tuan L., and Gracie W.

Tuan is a ZAI employee on one of our NIH projects. He is pursuing a BS in Computer Science from the University of Maryland College Park. Tuan’s exceptional work ethic, ability to balance full-time work while attending school full-time, and desire to better his immigrant family’s lives espouse the desired traits of a scholarship awardee and are a few of the reasons he was chosen to be awarded one of ZAI’s scholarships.

Olivia recently graduated from high school with a GPA over 4.0 and will attend the University of Maryland College Park in the fall to pursue a degree in Psychology. Her ultimate goal is to attend law school and become a special victims/family violence attorney. This is a young lady who knows what she wants and has created several amazing opportunities for herself to gain valuable experience—all while still in high school. She is an excellent representation of a ZAI Scholarship winner.

Gracie is a rising Senior at the University of Virginia, double majoring in Systems Engineering and Mathematics and minoring in Computer Science. She is also an accomplished musician. Her work ethic and determination to succeed were evident from both her essay and her two exemplary letters of recommendation and make her an outstanding choice for one of ZAI’s scholarships.

We are proud of our 2020 ZAI Scholarship Program winners and thank each applicant for his or her interest.
