ZAI Awards Scholarships

Tuesday, June 20, 2023

The purpose of the annual ZAI Scholarship program is to promote the continued education of ZAI’s employees and their immediate families and to recognize those who have demonstrated academic and/or employment excellence.

To qualify, applicants must meet the following criteria: (1) be a current ZAI employee or immediate family member (spouse, child, or dependent), (2) be accepted at an accredited two- or four-year college or university to pursue a degree beginning either the Fall or Spring of the coming academic year, and (3) submit a completed application package per the requirements stated on the application.

This year, the Scholarship Committee reviewed all complete submissions received by the May 12 deadline and made its selections. Congratulations to Therein K., Abdul K. and Christian E.

Therein just completed his Sophomore year at the University of Maryland, where he is majoring in Psychology with a goal of helping people with mental illness cope and heal. He is a three-time applicant and first-time winner

Abdul graduated this month from high school having concurrently earned an Associates Degree in Computer Science from Montgomery College. Due to space limitations, he won’t start his Bachelor’s degree at the University of Maryland until January; however, he will take classes at Montgomery College this fall. His ultimate goal is to design “programs that bridge gaps in educational equity, improve access to vital resources, and foster community engagement.”

A scholar-athlete, Christian graduated from high school this month and will attend Carnegie Mellon University in pursuit of a degree in Business. His goal is to support business development in his parents’ hometown in Ethiopia, as well as in other parts of the world that lack resources, by gaining “technical skills and IT fieldwork experience to improve conditions.”

We are proud of our 2023 ZAI Scholarship Program winners and thank each applicant for his or her interest.
