DOJ – ATF

For the Department of Justice (DOJ) Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), ZAI supports the National Tracing Center (NTC), responding to law enforcement requests to trace weapons used in a crime, supporting firearms and explosives licensing, and digitizing and indexing various incoming records. ZAI also operates two ATF contact centers serving law enforcement and firearms dealers. We receive trace requests from law enforcement entities, many of which are urgent and must be completed within 24 hours. In 2016, the NTC processed nearly 387,000 trace requests.
