Lean Six Sigma to Visually Depict Submarine Install Lean Six Sigma to Visually Depict Submarine Install
We used Lean Six Sigma to develop Execution Dependencies Network (EDN), a visual tool used by the Navy to manage submarine installation activities. The tool optimizes the Navy’s ability to manage people performing installs within available space. The tool visually allows the Navy to schedule staff based on the number of people needed during certain periods. EDN touches nearly every piece of the install and shows dependency, predecessors, and successors for each phase. With each step of the install, the Navy can visually see if requirements were met, and if any components were missing, regardless of what the schedule said. This has streamlined efficiencies and demonstrated cost savings for the Navy.
