Creating a Model Digital Library for NASA Goddard
Our work at the NASA Goddard Library has helped create one of the most forward-thinking digital libraries in the Federal Government. It is highly regarded by NASA and the library community, and serves as a model digital library. We’ve helped manage this library since 2001, and have been tasked with converting it from card catalog to digital. We’ve implemented and enhanced library service software modeled after leading search engine functionality. The advanced tool searches multiple platforms within NASA’s collections and has attracted the praise of the library community and universities seeking similar capabilities.
Users are scholars and scientists. The digital and traditional library consists of hundreds of thousands of volumes of books, journals, and databases, which we provide to users with immediate online access. The library also includes space program and satellite photos, lectures, and audio and video from the 1960s.
Because we work closely with users and always seek to understand how best to deliver products to them, we’re known for being highly responsive to users’ needs. Our team has built a community of trust with NASA’s scientists and researchers so we can understand and best support their work.
