SOLDIER IDENTIFICATION SYSTEM
ZAI's patented Soldier ID system is used to identify friendly forces. It consists of two parts. The first part is a beacon worn by the troops. The second part is the interrogator - a receiver/detector that's used to observe the unique beacon signature.
PORTABLE DESIGN IS SOLDIER-FRIENDLY
The beacon is configured in a one-cell flashlight format that is clipped onto the soldier's lapel. For a soldier already overweighed with heavy weaponry and equipment, this lightweight ID system is welcome. It emits a coded and encrypted spread spectrum signal. On the other end, the receiver/detector is configured in a two-cell flashlight format. It can be hand-held or mounted on a rifle barrel similar to a scope. From this position, it can decode and observe the beacon.
DETECTOR PICKS-UP BEACON'S TONE
Due to the frequencies used, the encrypted spread system is absolutely invisible to all sensors except to the system receiver. When a transmitting beacon is within the narrow beam width of the receiving antenna, the detector emits an audible tone. This is what identifies the target as a friend.
