6/17/2008 - LOC Awards Stack and Collections Maintenance Program Contract to ZAI
THE Library of Congress (LOC) is the world’s largest library collection with more than 134 million items and with a growth rate of new acquisitions at about 2.25 million pieces a year for the last five years. The collections are housed in the Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, and James Madison Buildings on Capitol Hill, and three high-density storage facilities located in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. The huge quantity of items already in the collection and the high growth rate presents continual collection management challenges.
LOC awarded ZAI a contract to maintain its collections. With a staff of 60+ employees, ZAI will coordinate activities with the Library’s Collection Access and Loan Management Division. Our services include a wide array of ongoing collection movement including shifting entire collections and/or portions of collections, placing and maintaining collection organization, sorting and shelving new and returning items, and unpacking and packing collections.
